The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society has its roots in the formation of a library in 1797, when Chief Justice Thomas Strange donated his personal collection to the province for the use of his fellow lawyers. Chief Justice Strange had resigned his position to accept a post in India where he became Chief Justice of Calcutta in 1804. The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society has been in existence for 175 years. It has a proud history of dedication and commitment to the custodianship of the rule of Law in NS.
